United States – Ensenada
Sculptural pieces that tell stories through the union of art, design, and, of course, sculpture. This is the objective of Andrès Monnier, a self-taught Mexican artist, born in Guadalajara, and now based in Ensenada in Baja, California.

His first memory of creation? He owes it to his grandmother. “I don’t know exactly why I have this memory, but as a child I remember being curious about a small statue belonging to my grandmother. And with this ‘curiosity’ I started to intervene (or rather destroy) this statue with pencils and paint. My grandmother got angry, because it was a mark of recognition from the University of Guadalajara where she was a professor of plastic arts. I don’t remember exactly what she said to me, but she didn’t punish me. Instead, she gave me an explanation of the shape of the statue, and I think that’s how she opened the door to art in me.

A door that opened fully in 2017, when he launched his own studio, where, supported by his entire team, he creates pieces, art objects, and functional furniture, with fire, rock, glass, concrete, wood, or even metal.
Three years later, the artist chose to create his first collection of pieces using only rock. It then became his signature material. It was not until 2021, when he was also a student of medicine and industrial engineering, that he decided to launch himself as an emerging artist and organized his first exhibition entitled “Olympo” in Tribeca, New York, under the auspices of the Philia Gallery. The exhibition consisted of seventeen pieces, all from his first collection, inspired by Greek mythology.
