France – Paris
Remix Gallery revives the design of the 80’s with a postmodern aesthetic, with a collection of pieces as rare as they are iconic.
The 80’s remains a symbol of revolutionary and sociological changes on many levels of society. This is precisely the credo of the founders of Remix Gallery in the field of French design. An aesthetic and eclectic heritage for the contemporary world that Valérie Bouvier and Antoine Nouvet have been bringing to light and up to date since 2015 in their space in Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine.
The first is a visual artist, the second is a historian. Both develop a reflection at once “formal, functional, and political,” while devoting their research to the work of Philippe Starck, a visionary designer they revere, whose objects have become cult. Sofas, armchairs, chairs, lights, screens, bookcases, tables, desks…
In eight years, they have managed to build up “a stock and a collection as important as it is rare of more edited pieces,” claiming “a post-modern aesthetic, iconic of this period as prolific as it is legendary.”
Renewal and inventiveness
Within their gallery, the duo already has many great names, such as Andrée Putman, Ettore Sottsass, Pascal Mourgue, Olivier Gagnère, Gilles Derain, Christian Duc, Alessandro Mendini, Jasper Morrison … These two children of the 80’s defend tooth and nail creators and creations, renewing the styles and avant-garde vision of this flourishing decade that seems destined not to lose steam.
Just look at the various monographic exhibitions they have organized in their space, but also recently their stands designed at the Paul Bert market and at the PAD Paris last March. Because even today, the 80’s aesthetic continues to seduce all generations, surprising with its inventiveness, its audacity, its radicalism, its geometric shapes, its bright colors.
It also regularly contributes “to enrich institutional and private collections,” as they point out, for a perpetual renewal in design, and more broadly in art and fashion.
