A former professional skateboarder turned photographer, Quentin de Briey’s latest book takes us on a journey through New York over the past ten years, combining live shots, street portraits, portraits of friends and images from his editorial work. “Thank you for your business”, as the book is called, is a condensed photographic diary stretching from 2014 to 2022, testifying to the vitality of the city and the photographer’s gaze over the years.

Belgian-born Quentin de Briey works with magazines, fashion brands and advertisers all over the world. But it’s on the streets that he reveals much of his talent and inspiration. This book is part of a series published once a year since 2018, bringing together photographs taken during the year in question, and each composed as windows onto his personal and professional universe through the cities he travels through.

Alongside well-known and unknown skateboarders – the sport runs through the book with its stars such as Tyshawn Jones and Keith Hardy – and urban landscapes, portraits of celebrities and top models such as Alicia Keys and Freja Beha Erichsen are featured. In black and white as in colour, his mastery of tonality and situation produces particularly dense images, while movement and light direct the gaze and framing, whether it’s an outstretched arm in full effort, or a spark of light on the windows of a building. The situations form a subjective social portrait, in the purest tradition of street photography.
