My Bones To Blossom, Queer Splendour
Presenting a rich introspection, My Bones To Blossom, her first solo exhibition in Miami, offered by Spinello Projects, is a tribute to the union between man and nature. Inspired by Whitfield’s permaculture wisdom, his series reflects a harmony between self-sustaining ecosystems and agriculture, where queer identity and nature rub shoulders, sharing meaning and truths.
In this collection, Barnaby Whitfield combines history and naturalism, injecting deep symbolism into his art. My Bones To Blossom depicts a self-sustaining world where daring queer farmers practise sustainable agriculture. This painstakingly painted world is an ecosystem where symbolism and reality intertwine, and where fruits like Paw Paw and bletted persimmons become living metaphors. These fruits, in their evolution, symbolise acceptance and joy in the gay community, paralleling the process of ripening and transformation.
