JUERGEN TELLER I NEED TO LIVE

The “I need to live” exhibition traces the introspective, zany, absurd and sometimes offbeat work of photographer Juergen Teller.

Everyone wants to live, to live for love, to live despite ups and downs, to live despite bumpy roads, traumas, joys, sorrows, tears and laughter.

Juergen Teller, internationally renowned and highly regarded in the field of commercial photography and contemporary art, has worked for leading magazines such as Vogue, System, i-D, POP and many others, and won the prestigious Citibank Photography Award in 2003.

Over the past five years, Juergen Teller has worked with his wife, Dovile Drizyte, on joint projects that reflect various aspects of their relationship, their marriage and their role as parents. The title of the exhibition, “I need to live”, refers to Juergen Teller’s feelings about the milestones that have shaped his life, sometimes tragically. The artist approaches the subjects in the same way he does photography, in a direct, realistic and offbeat style.

This spectacular exhibition will be the artist’s most important to date, at the heart of the Grand Palais Éphémère.

The scenography was entrusted to 6A Architects, a great connoisseur of the photographer’s world.

Personal images, commissions and videos, but also a wide selection of his books, highlighted alongside other publications and magazines, in response to the cultural context in which Juergen Teller’s work is set.
