Until September 3, 2023, Pol Taburet’s first institutional monographic exhibition takes over Lafayette Anticipations. OPERA III: ZOO “The Day of Heaven and Hell” invites heaven to sympathise with hell. Discover it.

Mythological, chimerical, destructive… Pol Taburet’s sculptures and paintings metamorphose and intrigue. After presenting “OPERA I” at Galerie Balice Hertling (Paris) and “OPERA II” at C L E A R I N G Gallery (Los Angeles), Pol Taburet unveils the third part of his solo show under the watchful eye of curator Elsa Coustou.

Like guardians, the four bronze wagons in the Soul Trains installation (2023) watch over visitors. Asleep, their faces contort, weighed down by the weight of a heavy trauma. Through a small dummy window, an imposing rusty iron fountain draws attention. Belly (2023) depicts the voluptuous body of an opera singer. Sometimes protective, sometimes threatening, the dried-up fountain evokes an untimely death. Nearby, the lanky faces of Ô…Trees (2023) stand like cypress trees in a forest.

On the second floor, My dear (2023) is enthroned in a divine temple. Under a white-topped dining table, the two large paws of a Siamese cat prepare to pounce on their prey. On the walls of both levels, numerous paintings adorn the space, including Sacred Pit (2021) and Mars (2021). Like spectres, the painter’s supernatural creatures strike terror into the heart of the foundation.
