A NEW ARTISTS’ RESIDENCE IN URUGUAY

Casa Neptuna is part of the Fundación Ama Amoedo, created by philanthropist, art collector, and patron Amalia Amoedo.

This artists’ residence was created to “encourage creative thinking.” The building, immersed in the natural ocean environment and indigenous forest of José Ignacio, Uruguay, was built by Edgardo Giménez during the pandemic.

Its playful structure with bright colors responds to the style of this Argentine artist and designer, whose career began in the 1960s with the avant-garde and pop art scene in Buenos Aires.

Inside, the minimalist space is entirely white and bright to promote the concentration and needs of interdisciplinary artists, functioning as “a laboratory of ideas and experimentation.”

It includes a large shared studio, private en-suite rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a shared multipurpose room.

The founder’s goal is to create a lasting impact on the Latin American contemporary art ecosystem.

The institution is expected to expand the dialogue and networks of Latin American, Caribbean, and diaspora arts, with a focus on the Argentine and Uruguayan scenes.
