Life in Espingueira gradually came to a halt half a century ago, when farmers, goat herders and fishermen deserted the area.

Yet this northern coastline of Boa Vista Island looks like a small paradise, with its blonde sand dunes shaped by the wind, crystal-clear waters and generous year-round climate. Today, it is the delight of guests at Spinguera Ecolodge, a boutique hotel at the end of the world run by Larissa and her team.

Here, they sleep in stone cottages with colourful shutters, enjoy fresh fish under the gazebo… and let time fly.

No wifi, no TV, not even a cell phone network: total disconnection.
