The designer and artist, who has been a darling of fashion collaborations, from Dior to Nike to Tiffany, is making a foray into a whole new discipline: the bathroom via a basin with Kohler. As always, it is time that is at the center of his concerns. His creation, named “Rock.01” is composed of a 3D-printed, vitreous china part, supported by a hand-cast metal base. The first evokes like a rock dug by erosion, and the second a stone oxidized by the weather. “Rock.01 combines the future of 3D printing technology with the most basic methods of hand-cast metal,” says the artist. “It’s literally the new resting on the old, and I find that incredibly poetic. Kohler was the perfect partner to bring such a complex and futuristic design to life.”
