Heading north! Eight trendy hotels in the great white

From the Nordic countries to the North Pole, in the immensity of Lapland or in the trendy districts of Scandinavian cities, winter reveals all its magic under the influence of high latitudes. It’s time to book a few nights in an ecolodge, an urban boutique-hotel, or even a high exploration ship. Here are our eight favorite polar cocoons, combining luxury, design, and respect for nature.

Naali Lodge, Finlande

A Parisian couple left everything behind to settle in this old rehabilitated farm, in the middle of the Lapland Forest, under the Arctic Circle. They welcome nature lovers, in total immersion.

Decorator Ilse Crawford has transformed this 1910 townhouse (“Ett Hem” in Swedish). Her strengths: a refined decor in keeping with the times and service that is “just like home.”

Hotel Brosundet, Norway

In the charming historic town ofÅlesund,on a canal between two fjords, this hotel has taken over two fishermen’s warehouses. The heavy original beams blend in perfectly with the cozy, Scandinavian decor.

Villa Copenhagen, Denmark

Opened last year, this hotel opposite the station resurrects the century-old neo-baroque buildings of the Post Office. Universal Design Studio is in charge of the rooms, with Shamballa Jewels for the suites, and Goddard Littlefair has conceived the restaurants, one of which is under a huge glass roof. On the roof, a vegetable garden and swimming pool.

Commander Charcot, North Pole

Just out of the shipyards, this revolutionary ship of the Ponant company, eco-responsible and of great luxury, is one of the rare vessels to be able to sail to the legendary North Pole. On board, Jean-Michel Wilmotte and Jean-Philippe Nuel are responsible for the interior design, while Alain Ducasse is in charge of the gastronomy.
