IMMERSIVE SCENOGRAPHY OF BACK OF THE HOUSE

Anne-Sophie Prevot and Thomas Warren head up the Back of the House production studio. Photographers and architects by profession, the pair has chosen to design a new kind of scenography. Whether for Acne Studios, Nina Ricci, Issey Miyake or Y/Project. Back of the House not only imagines grandiose settings, but also tells stories within them. Surrounded by a talented creative team, Anne-Sophie and Thomas have more than one trick up their sleeve. Acumen reveals three set designs that caught their attention.

The Nina Ricci SS 2024 Show

Conceived in collaboration with Harris Reed, artistic director of the ready-to-wear brand Nina Ricci, a large blue drape dominated the interior of the Palais de Tokyo. As if by magic, mannequins appear and disappear behind the textile work. The space is plunged into a disconcerting purity where only the drape seems to offer an escape.

The Acne Studios FW 2023 Fashion Show

For Acne Studios, Back of the House tries a new approach. On the advice of Jonny Johansson, the ready-to-wear brand’s creative director and co-founder, the tandem worked hand in hand with a designer named Shauna to design these chimerical trees. Sometimes mystical, sometimes fantastic, the décor immerses viewers in an enchanted forest where time has stood still.

The Y/Project FW 2023 Fashion Show

A change of mood for Y/Project, where light is the main décor. Here, the venue dictates the scenography, not the other way around. Seated on long black benches, spectators’ eyes are no longer riveted on the breathtaking scenography, but rather on the clothes worn by the mannequins. “Our set designs are like plays. So luminosity is essential to our work,” concludes Anne-Sophie Prevot.
