Galerie Mark Hachem & Galerie Joseph present GUNTER SACHS RETROSPECTIVRE

One of his photographs, a portrait of supermodel Claudia Schiffer, a tribute to Warhol, was on the cover of our issue 39 and will be on view at the Retrospective exhibition organized by Galerie Mark Hachem and Galerie Joseph, curated by Mark Hachem.

An industrialist and keen sportsman, Gunter Sachs developed his love of photography in the early 50s with experimental black & white images. Much later, he was commissioned by Vogue magazine, giving him international recognition as a fashion photographer. His talent was confirmed by the award of the prestigious Leica Prize in 1976.

Gunter Sachs researches, experiments and develops techniques to create images somewhere between art and photography, inspired by the surrealism of painters he admires such as Dali, Giogio de Chirico and Renée Magritte. He loves the beauty of the body and seeks to sublimate each model immortalized by his lens.

In 1991, he devoted himself to an original series entitled “Héroïnes”, depicting 13 women who have left their mark on history and literature around the world. He needed a model to symbolize these 13 emblematic figures, and very quickly his artistic choice fell on top model Claudia Schiffer. The fashion icon would go on to become Cleopatra, Mata Hari, Joan of Arc and Isadora Duncan. Portraits combining strength and beauty to be discovered at the Paris exhibition.
