DONATA WENDERS

Former assistant director and set photographer, the wife of the great director Wim Wenders, Donata Wenders has been developing a poetic black-and-white photographic work since 1995.

It is in her series, In the Snow (2010), that her work comes closest to a pictorialist research: elegant female figures appear as if in transparency behind a rain of “pointillist” snowflakes or drowned in a flaky mist until they melt and disappear.

A poetic evocation of effacement that can be found in many portraits – such as the beautiful gaze showing through the veil (The Veil, 2002) or the blurred face with closed eyes of Milla (1999), in the series Islands of silence; but also in the architectural photographs (Berlin, 2007) and many studies.
