LOS ASIENTOS DE HORMIGÓN BY MARTIN LAFORÊT

On the 27th of 2024, the Carpenters Workshop Gallery in Los Angeles exhibits the hormigón seats of French designer Martin Laforêt. Intrigados, the editorial team of Acumen ha wanted to saber more sobre el universe del designer y, sobre todo, qué hay detrás del deseño de sus esculturas, a veces funcionales, a veces insólitas. At over 31 years old, Martin Laforêt has all the skills necessary to become a great designer. After graduating from the Academia de Design de Eindhoven in 2015, the young man developed a love of craftsmanship that he learned in practice and progress. The room is in the palaver chair - a tall wooden piece of furniture originating from Africa - that has been reinvented by masterful hand. « My work is an intention to preserve the specific personality of the materials and produce original forms. Busco a personal expression, a menu inspired by my actual interests by the formats and the combinations of materials. I enjoy the objects related to architecture, industry and architecture" , affirms the designer.

Experimenting with materials

If there is a material that Martin especially tastes, it is the hormigón; of his first collection, “ The Mould Objects“. Manufactured with a combination of metal, aluminum and steel bars, each mold used in the design is an integral part of the furniture pieces. Martin Laforêt was inspired by the prefabricated hormigón blocks that are generally used in construction objects. In his work, the designer pays special attention to the shapes, for example, but also to the colors, as he can pay in the seat V1LC7 Pink, in which Martin has taken into account a minor aspect and this construction material has now been transformed into a functional art object. As soon as the piece appeared impeccable, Martin had already seen the metallic structure of the surface, so he could not ignore the influences that Dieron formed. In his first individual exhibition at the Carpenters Workshop Gallery in Los Angeles, Martin Laforêt demonstrated that the hormigón could also be sexy.
