A 45-minute drive from Lisbon nestles the Hotel Marqí, Mikkel Kristensen’s jewel in the crown. The building, once a manor house, has risen from ashes thanks to the creative vision of the Danish photographer.
The history of this residence has greatly inspired the new owner in the renovation of each space. Formerly occupied by a man with a flair for partying, Mikkel drew on his vivid imagination to breathe new life into this four-decade-old mansion. Including the grand entrance hall with its wrought-iron gates, the hotel’s centrepiece.

Immortalised Like a Photograph
Once through the door, the Marqí Hotel’s furnishings immerse guests in the 1970s. Through each piece of furniture carefully selected by the owner, guests discover a universe that is at once poetic, cinematic and singular. Initially conceived for entertaining, the residence boasts spacious terraces, sumptuous fireplaces and a basement club: “Nando’s Place”.
From the terraces of the eight rooms and suites, guests can gaze out over the lush, exotic garden. With its pure colours, the interior seems to be imbued with the surrounding hills and verdant vegetation. Hotel Marqí is much more than that… it’s the private home of a long-time friend.
