Founded in 2016 by the two architects Elias Kalach and Teddy Nanes in Mexico City, the firm Vertebral operates in both the world of architecture and landscape design.

"Our agency is not governed by an aesthetic ideal or a geometric predisposition, but by research that arises from the exercise of observation, in order to approach the understanding of a site and a series of circumstances that provide indications and guidelines for the architecture." Emphasizing the use of primary materials, the two architects utilize concrete, steel, stone, and wood as their main resources. In addition to considering the context of each project, Vertebral emphasizes its work with vegetation: "Vertebral understands architecture as the act of intervening in a site to create space through walls and slabs, but also through bushes, grasses, and trees." This philosophy is embodied in the Costa Alegre project in Jalisco, Mexico. This residence, located on a cliff facing the sea, is composed of several volumes: the bridge-like structure adapts to the divided terrain, allowing the stream present on the land to follow its natural course.

Three compact cylindrical stone volumes complete the ensemble. Their height allows the bedrooms to offer privacy and a splendid view of the Pacific Ocean. Along the coastline, rocks emerge dramatically from the sea, forming natural pools surrounded by a light structure that provides partial shade. A unique project that coexists with the mountains, the landscape, and the ocean.
