JENNY HYTÖNEN A SYMBIOSIS BETWEEN TECHNOLOGY AND THE BODY

Jenny Hytönen is a young Finnish woman who received a standing ovation in October 2022 at the previous edition of the Hyères Festival for her “Untitled” collection. Winner of the Grand Prix Première Vision and the Prix du Public, this 25-year-old designer saw her future change before her eyes thanks to a collection halfway between knitwear and BDSM “Bondage, Domination, Submission, Sado-Masochism,” offering a contrasting universe between poetry and power.

A graduate of the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture in Helsinki, Jenny Hytönen quickly realized that the nerve center of fashion was in Paris. After her studies, she completed an internship in the French capital with Olivier Theyskens, in his favorite field: “Knitwear.” A discipline that attracts her with its personality, more mathematical than literary, and its meticulous and repetitive side that allows her to create a way to express herself through creations rather than through words sometimes difficult to find.

While she became a knitwear designer for Olivier Theyskens, she continued to develop her own style, which was presented at the Hyères Festival last October. A disruptive and mixed collection entitled “Untitled,” mixing recycled leather, knitwear, and other materials, such as nails and glass beads, for an emotional encounter between the transparency of the fishing net and the BDSM inspiration. A reference that Jenny Hytönen links to fashion for the pain and pressure that this industry represents, while incorporating a touch of sensuality.

The basis of this handmade collection comes from two women, Atsuko Tanaka and Rebecca Horn, who explored the link between technology and the body with the idea of designing human machines capable of feeling emotions.

Today, Jenny Hytönen’s creative universe is nourished by Olivier Theyskens, Azzedine Alaïa, and Alexander McQueen, who have been able to give clothes an artistic dimension.

But after a noticed passage at the fashion event, the young designer, who keeps her head always full of projects, will have the opportunity to create a capsule collection for Galeries Lafayette and other capsule collections from natural materials provided by Icicle, an eco-friendly luxury brand. Jenny Hytönen has not finished surprising us.
