KOLOR, A COLORFUL AND DESTRUCTIVE SPIRIT

Japan – Tokyo

Kolor is a Japanese brand founded in 2004 by Junichi Abe. After studying at Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo, he worked at the Comme des Garçons design studio with Junya Watanabe, whom he helped launch his label. During this same period, he met his future wife, Chitose Abe, founder of the Sacai brand.

Following this path, the Japanese designer went on to found the brand ppCM with three partners. But after about ten years, he decided to embark on a more personal venture, creating Kolor, a unisex ready-to-wear label. His aim was to reinterpret sportswear style in a more contemporary way, adding a touch of sophistication.

Since its creation, Kolor has offered a wardrobe for everyday wear that is light and fluid, creating a unique style with inserts and additions, producing the effect of a patchwork or a puzzle, without neglecting comfort. Junichi Abe imagine collections that respond to an emotion or the mood of a moment in order to create a balance.

"Quirky," "colorful," "innovative," and "creative" might be the words that best describe the world of Kolor. However, the hallmarks of the Japanese brand remain its distinctive finishes combined with elegant cuts, resulting in an unconventional style. The designer enjoys pairing different textures with different colors to create an unparalleled interplay of light. The colors are either uniform or carefully chosen to provide a natural nuance ranging from indigo to mustard yellow and bronze.

With its pieces that are both structured and deconstructed, where attention is constantly paid to detail,

Kolor has established itself over the years as an attractive, cutting-edge brand with an innovative impact, maintaining a wearability-focused approach without being flashy, and has found its place in niche boutiques like Leclaireur and Harrods.
