MILAN DESIGN WEEK IN THREE PARTS

Couldn’t make it to Milan Design Week

Here are three highlights that inspired the editorial staff of Acumen.

Silent Hollows or a tribute to Mother Nature

The enigmatic yet functional and poetic pieces by Lebanese designer and architect Richard Yasmine are evocations of the earth’s crust. From the table to the light fixture and the mirror, this ensemble recreates, according to the designer, an interstellar setting or a celestial scenography via virtual reality.

An experience that takes the viewer from a dramatic planetary landscape to an alternative mystical landscape celebrating the journey through virtual sensations. Through this experience, designer Richard Yasmine invites us to free the soul from our attachment to matter, to dive deeply into it in total immersion.

Alchemy by Sophie Dries

Architect and designer, Sophie Dries presented the Alchemia vase, designed exclusively for the Nilufar gallery, at this year’s Salone del Mobile 2023.

Alchemical experimentation and the transformation of materials are recurring themes throughout her career.

For this project, two vases were presented, evoking her fascination for opacity, colors, and minerals. Made by traditional glass masters in Murano.

Vuitton’s Nomadic Objects take to the light

The new Objets Nomades collection from France’s most famous trunk-maker is now a must-have and is adorned with light. The proof is in the famous ovoid seat “Cocoon” by the Campana brothers, dressed as a facet ball, or the “Bomboca” sofa, by the Brazilian siblings, who lost their half Fernando last year.

Also not to be missed is the “Spiral Chandelier” by Atelier Oï. Initially designed for the Louis Vuitton restaurant in Chengdu, China, this astonishing structure of leather and light has been reduced to 1.2 meters. Finally, the Flower Tower lamp by Atelier Biagetti closes this ball of light with its fascinating allure, inspired by the emblematic Louis Vuitton Monogram, made of bubbles reminiscent of flowers that seem to float as if by magic on halos of light.
