THE EXTRAORDINARY LITTLE EVENTS OF SABOURIN COSTES

The story of Sabourin Costes began at the Design Academy in Eindhoven. Zoé Costes and Paola Sabourin met there in 2015. They then, individually, cultivated their own vision of the discipline. While Zoé moved to China where she joined the design team of the Neri and Hu agency in Shanghai, Paola moved to Rotterdam, where she designed her first creations for Hermès and Ligne Roset. In 2019, the two designers reunited and launched Sabourin Costes, a studio for space and object design. Carefully exploring materials and their use, they aim to create singular objects that are “functional as small extraordinary events that punctuate our interiors.” Thus, a table with mirror effect will reflect the forgotten spaces of our living room, a shelf will act as a pedestal for our scattered objects.

An approach that has given birth to several collections, self-published and made with specialized craftspeople from France, the Netherlands, and Portugal. Among them, “LT,” two low tables in stainless steel. These were conceived as a three-dimensional study of the encounter between a piece of furniture and its environment. With a mirror polish, the stainless steel manipulates the reflection and distortion of the environment. The table, thus, reflects a whole new version of our spaces.

Next comes the “Boudin” collection, which includes coffee tables, stools, vases, and handles. All have as common denominator the resin cylinder, transparent and furiously pop and sharp as the image of this duo of designers.
