Located in the heart of the vine-covered hillsides of Champagne, the enchanted landscape surrounding the Mutigny Resort hotel is enough to stand on its own. In Mutigny, in the Champagne region, the new 4-star hotel-spa designed by Studio Jouin Manku only opened in the summer of 2022, but it is already an address that should be discovered as soon as possible: a bistronomic restaurant with 120 seats, a 1,000 m² spa with two saunas, a 29° heated swimming pool, a hammam and treatment rooms, as well as wine- and champagne-tasting activities with a catalog of 4,000 references. The architectural studio’s plan was to make this establishment “a privileged destination to explore all the facets of a symbol of French art de vivre.”
The building, intended to be as raw as champagne planted in chalk and clay soil, is located on the border of the Montagne de Reims National Park on a promontory at 240 meters above sea level. Architect Sanjit Manku calls the project “a mix of sparkle and simple pleasures.” The structure is raised on a mineral concrete foundation and covered with wood. It is light and transparent like a bubble. The building is split into two blocks so that the perspectives differ. Nature surrounds the 101 rooms of the spa hotel. The second floor is composed of a central chimney, an aerial sculpture in perforated metal that rises like evanescent bubbles along the monumental staircase. The champagne theme is thus well respected.
As for the rooms, they are located in the second part of the building, offering a breathtaking view of the edge of the forest. The roof of this hotel, made of concrete and vegetated, covered with wood, blends into the vegetation, as if it were an architectural extension. Its interior design is both natural and elegant. This building is entirely dedicated to the beauty and diversity of the Champagne region, with a different approach to the places usually dedicated to champagne tasting. The establishment offers champagne tasting within the vineyards where it is produced. A meeting place where locals can interact with their visitors. A sparkling address perfect for the end of the year celebrations.
