THE MONUMENTAL SHELL COMPLEX REDESIGNED BY COBRA STUDIOS

Commissioned by Sparks to redefine its new meeting rooms, Cobra Studio was able to infuse its richly contrasting world on a limited budget without going against the style of this iconic Art Deco building in the Belgian capital.

To design the 2,500 m2 space, which includes ten meeting rooms, a lobby, and a bar-restaurant, Cobra Studios chose to combine the original materials still present in the building, such as travertine, marble, and concrete, with modern materials, such as latex, clay, stainless steel, foam, resin, velvet, and aluminum. The duo has also created a series of furniture, including chairs, tables, lamps, sofas, and curtains to fit the space, combined with elements from their collection.

Based in Brussels, Kenny Decommer and Hugues Delaunay rely on a language close to postmodernism. Kenny Decommer is a former architect who trained in Paris, while Hugues Delaunay specializes in visual identity and has worked for several major luxury houses. The duo seeks to design minimalist, yet highly decorative, designs that stand the test of time and artistic movements.
