VALERIANE LAZARD DESIGNS POLENE’S FIRST NEW YORK STORE

Purity, minimalism, and nature are the three words that define the architectural work of Valeriane Lazard.

In charge of the interior design of their boutique in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, it is quite natural that the brand Polène wanted to continue their collaboration with the design of their first New York boutique. A nugget in the heart of the hustle and bustle of Broadway.

After graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven under the direction of designer Ilse Crawford and Studio Formafantasma, Valeriane Lazard trained with great names in architecture, such as Studio KO – responsible for the creation of the Yves-Saint Laurent Museum in Marrakech – and Vincent Van Duysen. The interior designer’s work is an ode to organic materials and details that make her projects unique.

Upon entering the store, the white stone sculpting of the New York storefront and the wooden details seen from the windows reveal a most intriguing interior. In the center, a glass installation catches the eye. The centerpiece of the store, it allows the carving of custom leather under the astonished gaze of the customers. A white powder made of marble makes up the walls of this first space composed of masterful arches.

It is a place imagined in length that we discover by a high ceiling with a spherical appearance. Each piece of furniture, including the imposing travertine in the center of the main room and the walnut wood furniture, sets the tone and guides the visitor through the different spaces of the boutique. The interior design is disconcertingly simple and invites meditation.

Each piece of furniture has been custom designed with this particular attention to detail. Valeriane Lazard was keen to highlight contemporary artists, notably through the imposing table made from compressed leather scraps by Spanish artist Jorge Penadès. Displayed on the walnut wood shelves like collector’s items, Polène’s handbags consciously dress each space of this unique interior. The entire floor was made of a light travertine that matches the dark color of the rounded chairs, made not far from the boutique, in the workshops of the Château Brooklyn brand.

In the future, within its most intimate space, the brand will launch a jewelry and shoe collection, which explains the presence of numerous glass arches and a sculptural five-seat chair designed in walnut wood and woven leather.
