Exploring, with a feeling of humor and duplicity, The plural life of identity [The Plural Life of Identity], to use the title of its first retrospective in Germany in 2021, Elsa & Johanna desvelan their new visual narrative in the studio of the European House of Photography. A new autofiction narrative “in the smallest details” realized during two weeks of May of 2021 in the north of Germany, in a quincena of communities, between the Moormerland, in the Baja Sajonia.
Using its usual modus operandi, the two houses have an ancient enchantment and interpret the protagonists of their domestic dramas imagined in situ, transforming them into mothers and fathers, melancholic and emotional adolescents, clusters of houses..., into a disturbing game of roles and metamorphosis. Fabulous actresses, we catch the photos of the verosimilitude due to the exactness of their reconstructions. Accuracy of actions and instructors (muy cinematográficos), of clothing and Props (deliciously vintage), but also, dominio del tiempo suspendedido y de las palabras no dichas, que nos enfrentan a la “total subjectivity” (reivindicada por Alain Robbe-Grillet en su manifiesto For a new novel in 1963…).
