Dutch artist Scarlett Hooft Graafland works across the globe. From country to country, in places of natural wonder, she collaborates with local communities to create installations and dance performances, traces of which are captured only in her minimalist photographs. Bolivian salt flats, Malagasy islands, Arctic and marine landscapes converge and converse in her work. The apparent formal simplicity of the images and the vibrancy of the colors evoke gentle encounters. Scarlett bridges the gap with documentary photography, not by replicating its detached approach to landscapes and people, but by exploring their relationships, between cultural realities and boundless nature.
