Sixty years ago, Yves Saint Laurent unveiled his first haute couture collection under his own name. At only 26 years old, he quickly established himself as one of the dressmakers the most creative of his time. To celebrate this French fashion house, the Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent Foundation conceived the event “Yves Saint Laurent at the Museums”: a series of exhibitions that, until May 15, 2022, highlights the designer’s close relationship with art and literature. In a minimalist scenography designed by Jasmin Oezcebi, six Parisian cultural institutions have joined forces to open their permanent collections to the work of the renowned couturier. From museum to museum, this undeniable figure of fashion emerges, revealing his creative evolution and his perspective on the arts and crafts of the world.

While the Centre Pompidou emphasizes the influence of contemporary art, notably with its famous Mondrian dress, the Musée National Picasso-Paris showcases the evident influence of the Spanish artist. The Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, for its part, highlights the fluid nature of his work, which oscillates between colors, light, and materials. At the Musée du Louvre, his fascination with gold, a solar material he celebrated in the embellished jacket "Homage to My House," is revealed. Literature also features prominently in the galleries of the Musée d'Orsay: fascinated by Marcel Proust, the couturier translated this passion through the ambiguity of his clothing. Finally, the Musée Yves Saint Laurent concludes the exhibition with an immersion into the fashion house and its ateliers through its archives.

"Yves Saint Laurent at the museums" is an extraordinary retrospective that allows us to experience the capital of fashion in a different way: through the modern work of the designer and his dialogue with the arts.
