Nothing new under the joystick; fashion continues to make eye contact with geek culture. Winner of the Emerging Talent Award of the Grand Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris last year and disciple of Jean-Paul Gaultier, Alphonse Maitrepierre created his eponymous house Maitrepierre in 2018. A playful spirit, he mixes the graphic cuts of the 70s with the design of today’s technological objects in his collections. Between futurism and nostalgia, we remember one of his iconic pieces: the joystick bag similar to the controller of a PlayStation 3. A genius in the making who is taking his place among the greats with psychedelic prints, oversized accessories, sculptural lines and, this season’s leading trend, a rethought and magnified tailoring. His latest spring/summer 2022 collection, wild and colorful, named “ALGO-ARCHIVES” perfectly reflects his niche, suspended between yesterday and tomorrow.
