XULY.Bët, which means "keep your eyes open" in Wolof, a language spoken mainly in Senegal and Mauritania, is a Parisian fashion house founded in 1991 by Lamine Kouyaté.
After studying architecture in Strasbourg, the designer decided to settle in Paris and quickly launched XULY.Bët: clothing for free and liberated women. The brand also embraces upcycling, as it is known for its use of recycled garments. The artist creates haute couture by reshaping found clothes, cutting, sewing, and subtly altering them, or even completely reimagining them.
Dresses are transformed into skirts, skirts into bags, stockings into backless tops, and sweaters into dresses. Her collections are imbued with her roots, her life, and her travels between Africa, Paris, and New York.
