With Julie Joubert, the photographic portrait finds a new breath, between subjective documentary and studio compositions with worked lights. Her first book MIDO traces the story of an encounter and the discovery of an identity, that of Ahmed, a young man leaving a rehabilitation center and dreaming of becoming a model. Reflecting a real or fantasized life, mixing media techniques, the mystery of self-construction is played out. If the portrait is by nature a place of crossing of individual glances, between photographer and model, Julie Joubert carries a strong social speech. The respectful dialogue gives access to a new representation, assuming as much as exceeding our preconceived ideas on the social classes represented.
