Liǎn 脸 or the translation of our emotions online

A graduate of London's venerable Central Saint Martins, Jann Choy has combined her digital native culture with her Chinese heritage in her management “Liǎn (face) ”.

This experimental mask explores the relationship between our online persona and our offline self. This silicone mass inflates in response to our digital emotions, much like the masks in traditional Chinese theater, where the performer changes their expression with a simple hand gesture. "Liǎn" translates our online interactions in real time using codes. If we post, like, or comment on something positively, a specific area of the mask will inflate. The same is true for negative behavior. Far from approaching this project critically, the creator presents "Liǎn" as an investigation into our online behavior.
