To illustrate the evolution of the world's population, Frenchman Mathieu Lehanneur gave form to statistics through printed aluminum statuettes. 3D. Entitled "State of the World," these 140 pieces represent the populations of as many countries. Each of their grooves corresponds to an age, from 0 to 100 years, from bottom to top. Mathieu Lehanneur's work immediately makes it easier to appreciate the demographic changes of each nation, whether they conceal dramatic or joyous events. Thus, the silhouette of Cambodia, marked by the genocide perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge, displays a very slender top and a massive base, reminding us that, despite the tragedy the country has endured, the younger generations are more present than ever. This same vitality is found in the sculpture representing the world's population, which, with its robust base, evokes the hope embodied by youth.
