Paris Photography, the unmissable event for the photography market took place from November 11th to 14th at the Grand Palais Éphémère. After two years without an event, this 24thth The edition hosted more than 190 galleries and publishing houses from 30 different countries, as well as numerous conferences and book signings.
A new edition that greatly appealed to us and delighted us after this far too long period of silence…
This gives us the opportunity to present a selection of artists, featured at Paris Photo, whose works have touched, questioned or even challenged us.
IN CAMERA Gallery
This gallery, founded in 2008 by Hanane Hilmi and Jean Noël de Soye, aims to champion the photography of contemporary artists.
She has chosen to confront classical aesthetics with more contemporary sensibilities open to changes in the landscape and the exploration of new margins.
We were very interested in the work of Sissi Farassat. This artist was born in Tehran in 1969 where she spent part of her childhood before moving to Vienna in 1978.
Two cultures that have certainly inspired the work of the artist who adds material to his photographs with interwoven threads or carpets of sequins like an adornment of grace and light.
Another artist featured at the Galerie In Camera booth is Thomas Vandenberghe, with his small, intimate photographs taken using a compact camera with a flash. The artist presents us with a kind of diary of his personal life, inspired by desire, love, and loss. Torn, scratched, repeated, or even cropped, his images speak directly to memory.
La the need not only to look, but also to reconcile ourselves with what has been and perhaps even more with what could have been – but is not and never will be.
L PARKER STEPHENSON Gallery
L Parker opened his gallery on Madison Avenue in 2009 between 65e and 66e streets.
It offers its clients a targeted and personalized experience. Its reputation is built on knowledge, vision, integrity, and trust.
NWe were delighted to rediscover the artist's intense works. Jane Evelyn ATWOOD, who were so noticed at the Arles photography festival in 2018.
Jane Evelyn Atwood is interested in closed communities, formed by trauma and adaptation. In 1978, fascinated by the Parisian nightlife, she became interested in transgender people and decided to live for a year in the heart of the Pigalle district. Her powerful and profound photographs reveal the beauty of these unconventional individuals.
We were equally delighted by the photographs of John Cohen, filmmaker, photographer, writer, musician and musicologist. He became involved in the artistic and literary movements developing in New York in the 1950s and 1960s. This quote from Patti Smith perfectly sums up the multidisciplinary artist: It seems as if the treasures of the earth are inscribed in John Cohen's gaze. ».
PERSONS PROJECT Gallery
This gallery was founded in 1995 in Helsinki, Finland before moving to Berlin in 2005. Persons Projects has two exhibition spaces, one of which is dedicated to artists associated with the Helsinki school and is intended to function as their main international gallery.
We were struck by a photograph by the artist Joakim Eskildsen, a Dane trained in Finland at Aalto University and one of the most published and acclaimed photographers of the Helsinki School. This image is from the series "Skagen"Taken at night, the image is filled with a bluish light that gives it a surreal appearance. A disturbing snapshot on the border between reality and fiction.
Another artist whose creative process deeply touched us is Milja Laurila and her work on the series " Untitled Women It all begins with the discovery of a book entitled " Woman. An Historical Gynæcological and Anthropological Compendium “”, originally published in Germany in 1885, which was one of the most influential texts in the field of sexual science. The work describes female physiology from an anthropological perspective. Hundreds of photographs of naked women and children, bodies stripped of their personality, presented as exotic specimens and designated as mere objects. In her work, Laurila seeks to alter the objective of the original photographs and present women from a different angle. By using translucent paper to conceal the original scientific photograph, except for the women's eyes, she shifts the focus from the detailed evaluation of the female body parts to the eyes and the power of their gaze. Now they're the ones watching you. What's it like to be watched?

KAHMANN Gallery
The Kahmann Gallery was founded in 2005 by collector and entrepreneur Roy Kahmann. While the initial concept was to focus solely on vintage Dutch photography, the scope has expanded over time to include international photographers and emerging talents.
We were captivated by the photographs of artist Justine Tjallinks, inspired by painting from the Golden Age to the realist painters of the 20th century. The artist seeks to capture the unique character of individuals and the diversity of human beauty. These works become true photographic paintings.
