At the beginning of Heaps & WoodsIn Bali, we find an encounter with Indonesian culture. Louis, an entrepreneur, and Marta, an interior designer, discover a passion for craftsmanship, for a unique way of working with... natural materials. A world of wild creativity then opened up to them. The couple settled on the island and developed their project. Heaps & WoodsIt's the desire to create pieces born from a synergy between artisanal talents and responsible materials. Each creation conceived for a collection or a particular project is the result of an encounter with an artisan, of human collaboration.
Now based in Barcelona, Marta and Louis continue their work in Europe, collaborating with Spanish and Portuguese artisans to craft their furniture. At each stage of creation, the duo pushes the boundaries of sustainable materials. While solid wood was ubiquitous in their production in Bali, it is now complemented by rattan, marble, organic textiles, and, above all, recycled wood. Using reclaimed pieces, the studio challenges itself and imagines designs that give a second life to these already-built objects. From a wooden door or window, coffee tables, stools, and other architectural forms are born.
With their first collection Heirloom, unveiled in November, Heaps & Woods signs a manifesto. In collaboration with its artisans and their ancestral techniques, the studio imagines each of its pieces as a unique and durable object, to be passed down from generation to generation.
