« I would define my art as an exploration of intimate portraiture. “,” explains Clément Louis, 31, who has some twenty oil paintings and numerous drawings to his name. Boredom, sadness, sexuality, and the queer community inspire him. Transformed by Egon Schiele during a trip to Vienna, he, who entered the art world through fashion photography, has flourished since the lockdown with his paintings, which he describes as “figurative and openly gay.” Charmed by the Expressionists and other artists such as Lucian Freud, Alice Neel, and Bernard Buffet, he also admits to having been captivated by the works of Van Gogh and Toulouse-Lautrec. Thus, his art meanders between realism, a hint of the lubricious, and contemporary codes, incorporating Instagram and Tinder into his works. Exploring bodies, relationships, and encounters, the young artist from northern France has only one wish: to continue painting. Given his talent, anything else would be surprising.

« What interests me in Art, and more particularly in portraiture, is the intimate connection and fantasy that are created between the viewer and the painting. »
