September 2020 – Luxury cosmetics brand La Prairie invited artist Carla Chan to stay at the Monte Rosa Hut, a futuristic-looking refuge nestled in the heart of the Swiss Alps, not far from Zermatt. In residence in this magical place, which offers a breathtaking view of the Swiss peaks, the Hong Kong-born artist observes with fascination the metamorphoses of the preserved nature. The result of this experience is the video installation, Space between the light glows, which captures the “golden hour,” that fleeting moment when the passage of time materializes in an infinity of light variations, shadows and reflections. Presented at Frieze New York and Art Basel in Hong Kong, this immersive work invites meditation. This is perhaps “what would remain if we no longer existed.”
